Congratulations to Kathleen Stowell! Below is a nomination letter which sums up why she is so deserving of this award.
I have had the privilege of knowing Kathleen Stowell for 20 years and over the course of those 20 years have benefitted enormously from her approach to educating humans from age 3 or 4 to 93 or 94.
Kathleen is the Director of Education at LSPA (Lake Sunapee Protective Association).? I have known her since I first went on the LSPA Board in 2000 and then worked very closely when I served as president from 2006 to 2009.? I continue to be actively involved in LSPA, and whenever Kathleen calls, I answer.
She is truly magical.? She constantly innovates approaches to educating people of all ages by enabling them to appreciate their surroundings.? She does this with humor, gentle persuasion and wonderful props.
Ask any child who has spent time with her in the woods or along a stream?
??? -- any adult who has never thought about the importance water bugs?
??? -- any teacher in Sunapee area school districts who have had help from Kathleen in their program development?
??? -- any student who had a part in the Gift of the Glacier, a play written by Kathleen and performed by the 4th grade in New London every year for the past (20) years
??? --any 5th grader who attended Watershed Discovery at Mount Sunapee exploring the streams.
The list can go on. The bottom line is that Kathleen Stowell is an exceptional educator who touches thousands...yes thousands...of people of all ages through the programs she has developed at LSPA.? And, she imparts to these people her love of a healthy ecosystem, how it works and how vital it is for all of us to be engaged in doing our part to protect our environment.
